Guide Dogs of Texas – Roxie attending Scare

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Roxie will be kept in large areas (such as the hotel lobby or the ballroom during opening ceremonies) or in private areas (such as hotel rooms she has been invited to), for some examples.

Roxie will not be “forced” on anyone. Whether it is due to allergies or dislike, it isn’t our place to make someone be around a dog if they don’t want to. If you have issues with dogs, please email Bekkah Hackett (bekkah.hackett@gmail.com) and she will do her best to keep Roxie away from you.

For folks with allergy concerns, Roxie is groomed daily and regularly bathed to reduce her dander. This should stop allergy issues for most people, but just in case, please carry Benedryl with you.

CHARITIES – THE DETAILS!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Charities Team for SCaRE 2k9 is proud to present this year’s Charity Events:

Because we are holding our second SCaRE in New Orleans and because we want to make a difference and let the city know we care and appreciate it, we have chosen for one of our two main charities:

The Make It Right Foundation – building houses in an eco friendly, hurricane weathering way in the Ninth Ward. Helping People in New Orleans rebuild their lives and their homes. We have a lot of Members in the New Orleans area and they have had to live with and recover from the devastation that hit the city. Anything we can do to make things a little better and brighter is a good thing. < http://www.makeitrightnola.org/index.php?isDirect2=true >

The second of the main charities is:

The Wounded Warrior Project – providing state of the art prosthetics, counseling, job training, and aid to our Soldiers and Veterans who have served this country and been wounded in that service. The 4 state area of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma has one of the largest concentrations of Active Military and Veterans in the US. A good number of our own SC Region Membership is either Active Duty or Veteran Military. We do what we can to support them. < https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,840/ >

The Charity Auction will be going to sponsor these two worthy Charities. So, we will need your help!

Donations for the Charity Auction will be taken through Saturday of SCaRE…HOWEVER, the earlier you get us your Donation (or let us know that you’re donating if it’s a physical item and not an IC item) – so if you are donating to the SCaRE Auction, send donations to: Cat Williams < Ebilcat@gmail.com >. Be sure to include your name, Camarilla number, e-mail address, description of item, and ST contact if it is an IC item.

BUT…that’s not all…

To Raise Even More Money for these worthy Charities, Former SC ARST (4 years) and US ANST (4 years) Garou, Matthew Williams, has agreed to tell One More Story.

Details on time and pricing will be forthcoming in the near future…but yes, there will be a Charity Garou Game at SCaRE 2k9 – New Orleans.

NOW…don’t think that’s everything. Because we want to do the greatest good in as many areas as possible and we have amazing people in the Region of Love and beyond, we also have these Charity offerings for you:

New Orleans Libraries Book Donation – During Katrina, the majority of libraries in the New Orleans area were severely damaged or worse. A good majority of the books in those libraries were destroyed. As we are a bunch of gamers who spend a good majority of our hobby time reading books and promote that activity in others as often as we can – after all, get them reading young and we have the future Gamer Generation! – < http://nutrias.org/foundation/noplfoundationappeal.htm >

Therefore, we will be holding a raffle for a PDF download of a book from the WW Website (and maybe a few other things, depends on donations). The cost for a ticket in this raffle? A book.

Bring a book to be donated to the New Orleans Libraries and you will be entered into the raffle. It’s that simple.

Locks of Love – people who choose to can get their hair cut and donate it to Locks of Love at the event (or…if you’re NOT at the event, from April 16th to April 19th, get your hair cut and email Jessica Earl < retreatingapathy@gmail.com > and your DC letting us know about your donation! Be sure to include your name, Camarilla number, and e-mail address.). < http://www.locksoflove.org/ >

And…lastly:

Blood Donation – due to the rising need for blood donations in the US, we will be doing what we can to help out. We will have a mobile donation unit at the Hotel to take blood donations.

For those who are not at the event, but want to participate: donate blood from April 16th thru April 19th at your local donation facility and email Jessica Earl < retreatingapathy@gmail.com > and your DC. Be sure to include your name, Camarilla number, and e-mail address with the date and location where you donated. (Many donation facilities will give you donation receipts that you can show to your DC for proof of donation)

Ladies and Gentlemen – we look forward to seeing all of you at SCaRE 2k9 in New Orleans and we look forward to working with all of you to make our world a better place to be.

Thank you,

SCaRE Charity Co-Leads:
